A timed writing assessment Fletcher Media uses to evaluate candidates for writing roles at its outlets, together with a training course and a board of open roles for the writers who take it. It isn't a job offer, an employment contract, or paid freelance work.
Complete this assessment yourself, using accurate name and contact information. Don't have someone else take it for you, and don't submit someone else's writing as your own. The test measures how you write under a clock, so passing text through an AI tool and submitting it as your own defeats the point of it — we check for it, and we'd rather see your real work at whatever level it's at.
If you set a password, keep it to yourself and don't let anyone else use your account. Tell us if you think someone has. We can close an account that's being used by someone other than the person it belongs to, or to get at other people's applications.
You keep authorship and ownership of everything you write here. By submitting it, you give Fletcher Media a limited license to store, review, and score it internally for the purpose of evaluating your candidacy. As set out in our privacy policy, that license is for internal evaluation only — we don't publish, distribute, or otherwise use your submission for any other purpose.
The course material is ours, and it's for you to learn from. Please don't copy it, republish it, or pass it on. A certificate says you passed the quizzes in that course; it isn't a qualification from anyone but us, and it isn't a promise of work.
What's on the openings board is a description of a role we're looking to fill, not an offer. Rates and terms shown there are a starting point and can change; anything binding would come later, in writing, and separately from this site.
Because your submission isn't published and this is an evaluation exercise rather than commissioned work, completing the assessment doesn't create any payment obligation.
Parts of your submission are scored automatically, as described in our privacy policy. Those scores inform, but never make, a hiring decision — a person always reviews your work before any decision is final. The same scores decide which level of the training course opens to you.
Completing this assessment doesn't guarantee an interview, an offer, or a response of any kind. Fletcher Media may change, pause, or end the assessment, the course, or any listing at any time, for any outlet, without notice.
This site is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee it will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and Fletcher Media isn't liable for any loss arising from your use of it, to the extent permitted by law.
We may update these terms as the site changes. Continuing to use it after an update means you accept the current version.
